Block House Switzerland
Roth, September 2009. Eugen Block opened the first of his American-type steakhouses in Hamburg in 1968. That's forty years ago, and the special touch applied by the Hamburg entrepreneur can still be felt now, everywhere. On his homepagethe Block House founder is quoted as saying: "Serving our guests is, for me and my staff, the paramount task. It was like that at the start, and it still is now." Eugen Block did his training as a hotel officer, but it wasn't long before he was seized by a passion for the restaurant business that is still unremittingly strong. Now, though, the next generation is playing an active part in shaping the future of the Group, which consists of 16 firms and employs well over a thousand people. There are 40 Block House Restaurants in Germany, Spain and Greece, with menus offering grilled steaks, crisp salads and the classic Baked Potato with Sour Cream. Switzerland has just been given its first Block House.
The opening of the new restaurant in Basel saw the start of the cooperation between the two companies, and Mangelberger is proud that the Bavarian innovation it stands for blends so beautifully with Hanseatic hospitality. Mangelberger supplied a standardised solution that was individually tailored to the requirements of the Block House Restaurant. It consists of an electrical distribution system, light control and energy management.
As one of the founders of system restaurants in Germany's full-service segment, Block House attaches the very greatest importance to quality and ambience. Logically, therefore, the Mangelberger team developed, specially for Block House, a modular, 24-channel light control system. The human eye can perceive many million colours, so Block House has waved goodbye to the simple "light on - light out" mindset and will in future treat its guests to the delicate nuances and perfectly judged highlights of innovative restaurant lighting.
