Munich / Roth - Mangelberger Elektrotechnik GmbH was presented with the INDUSTRIE 4.0 AWARD 2022 in the "Smart & Sustainable" category in December. This internationally renowned award honored Industry 4.0 solutions that set new standards in digitalization, automation and the environment.
More than 30 high-caliber executives from industry determined who are positioning themselves as an Industrie 4.0 pioneer with their already implemented solution. Other, international winners of the INDUSTRIE 4.0 AWARD 2022 include Mangelberger Elektrotechnik GmbH (Germany), AUO Corporation (Taiwan) and EDGE Group PJSC (VA Emirates).
"Solutions that integrate customers and partners at an early stage to improve the economic and ecological balance beyond their own playing field are particularly exciting," said Hans-Georg Scheibe, Managing Partner at ROI-EFESO Management Consulting AG. "The Industry 4.0 solution from Mangelberger Elektrotechnik exemplifies how to successfully orchestrate manufacturing data and processes in this context."
In its award citation for Mangelberger Elektrotechnik GmbH, the jury praised "the realization of a circular economy in switchgear construction, in which AI and other Industrie 4.0 technologies support both the design and the reuse and recycling of the equipment." The prize will be awarded for how the "award winner further automates and digitizes its value chain."
The use of circular components
Mangelberger Elektrotechnik makes masterful use of the potential of digitalization to reconcile sustainability and profitability. The jury was particularly impressed by the holistic use of end-to-end artificial intelligence: for example, the technology analyzes current data from several thousand switchgears in the field and thus supports technicians and engineers both in the planning of new plants and in the targeted recycling of older switchgears.
The proportion of endlessly recyclable components in newly manufactured switchgear from Mangelberger is already exceptionally high. This exemplifies the successes that can be achieved with Industry 4.0 tools in a circular economy.
"Our cloud-based engineering links manufacturing processes with product and production data as well as real-time information from the plants in the field," explains Jürgen Mangelberger, Managing Director of Mangelberger Elektrotechnik GmbH: "In this way, we optimize economy and ecology as well as the direct return on investment of our products."
End-of-use switchgear is bought back from customers in order to reuse the metal parts of this equipment several times to endlessly, for example. "Plastic parts are granulated to be injection molded into new parts. For purchased components, we renaturalize damaged ecological areas and reforest our own forests to compensate for the CO2," Mangelberger says.
