Our research

With renowned partners

Together with renowned research partners such as Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm, the Technical University of Munich and the Technion in Haifa (Israel), we carry out internal and publicly funded research and development projects.

ProTekt

By developing an automated testing system, switch cabinets are to be tested reliably, quickly and with significantly less personnel effort. Within minutes, at any time of day or night.

Frequently asked questions about research in switchgear manufacturing

Which research topics does Mangelberger pursue in switchgear manufacturing?

We research technologies that make switchgear manufacturing faster, more precise, more sustainable and more future-proof. The goal is to bring new technologies into practice at an early stage and create measurable benefits for quality, delivery capability, use of resources and profitability.

Which universities and research partners does Mangelberger work with?

We carry out research and development projects together with renowned partners from science and research. These include Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) with its FAPS chair, Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm, Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt and the Technical University of Munich. This collaboration combines scientific expertise with practical application experience from switchgear manufacturing and electrical engineering.

How does research improve the quality and testing of switch cabinets?

Research and technology transfer enable automated, standardised and traceable manufacturing and testing processes. In the ProTekt project, for example, an automated testing system is being developed that is intended to test switch cabinets reliably and more quickly – with almost no personnel effort at the same time. This can help to detect errors earlier, make test procedures reproducible and safeguard the quality of electrical switchgear in the long term.

What role do AI and robotics play in switchgear manufacturing?

AI and robotics create new possibilities for the planning, production, assembly, testing and recycling of switchgear. Collaborative robots can support employees with complex or repetitive work steps. AI-based systems help to control processes more intelligently, recognise components or evaluate tests more efficiently. The RoMaFo research project, for example, deals with the automated assembly of flexible components such as cables; ARKIDES investigates the AI-assisted disassembly and recycling of complex electrical appliances.

How does research contribute to sustainability and the circular economy in switchgear manufacturing?

Research supports more sustainable solutions along the entire life cycle of a switchgear assembly: from energy- and resource-efficient production processes through durable designs and materials to the recovery of valuable raw materials at the end of the service life. Our ARKIDES research project investigates the use of collaborative robotics and AI in the disassembly and raw material analysis of the switchgear we manufacture. This allows materials to be separated more precisely, recycled more efficiently and returned to the economic cycle.
