Analysing a store’s smart metering data on screen

Smart metering

for far-sighted energy management to DIN ISO 50001

Smart metering refers to the digital, precise recording of energy consumption within an electrical distribution board.

Our “Smart Metering” plug-in to DIN ISO 50001 not only helps analyse equipment consumption, utilisation and signs of ageing – it also works preventively against impending failures.

Smart measurement.

Transparent consumption.

Intelligent smart meters deliver device- and area-specific consumption and power data automatically and promptly – for the entire store, for individual areas such as kitchen, refrigeration or lighting, and for particularly energy-intensive equipment.

Our “Smart Metering” plug-in divides your store’s energy consumption into individually defined groups, particularly powerful kitchen and ventilation equipment or sensitive consumers such as signage. In order to analyse consumption, determine operating times and support “preventive maintenance”.

Smaller and secondary consumers are clustered into sensible groups. A typical food or retail store has up to 24 energy sub-areas.

Measuring ranges of our smart meters

  • 100 watts to 80 kW
  • 80 kW to 400 kW

Measuring accuracy (IEC 61869-2)

  • Class 0.2 (max. 0.2 % deviation)
  • Class 0.5 (max. 0.5 % deviation)

Measuring intervals (as required)

  • Every 15 minutes
  • Every 5 minutes
  • Every minute
  • Live (real time)

Frequently asked questions about smart metering in switchgear

Why do I need smart metering in a store?

For stores of retail or restaurant businesses, for example, smart metering lays the foundation for effective energy management. Load peaks are detected, and unusual consumption or technical anomalies are spotted early. This helps to reduce energy costs, run operations more efficiently and document sustainability goals transparently.

What insights can I gain with smart metering?

Firstly, how much electricity and power the connected consumers need. Then, of course, when this consumption occurs and whether it may be unnecessary (e.g. because your ventilation runs 24/7). And in addition, how the energy demand of this area changes and what the reasons for this change might be.

Is smart metering a legal requirement for stores?

Whether smart metering is a legal requirement in a store depends on the respective metering point. Under the German Metering Point Operation Act (MsbG), the obligation applies in particular to sites with annual electricity consumption of more than 6,000 kWh, PV systems with more than 7 kW of installed capacity and certain controllable consumer devices. Additional measurements within the electrical distribution board – for refrigeration, kitchen or lighting, for example – are usually voluntary, but provide an important basis for transparency, energy management and cost reduction.

Can the smart metering data be exported to existing customer systems?

Of course. Possible formats include CSV, Excel, XML and SFTP, and other systems on request or by arrangement.
